BJP star campaigners line up for Assam polls

Union ministers and top BJP leaders have line up for campaign for the first phase of poll in 47 LACs in Upper Assam and North Bank.

GUWAHATI: Union ministers and top BJP leaders have line up for campaign for the first phase of poll in 47 LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) in Upper Assam and North Bank. While Union Minister Smriti Irani campaigned for party candidates at three different places – Mariani, Sivasagra and Samaguri – on Saturday, two star campaigners – Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh – will be on the campaign trail on Sunday.

Amit Shah addressed two rallies, one each at Margherita in favour of Bhaskar Sarma and Naniza in favour of Mayur Buragohain. Shah will be back to Assam on March 17 when he will campaign in favour of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Majula and in favour of Bolin Chetia at Sadiya.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, on the other hand, will campaign in favour of party candidate Pramod Barthakur at Biswanath, in favour of Utpal Bora at Gohpur and for Bhaben Bharali at Dergaon on Sunday.

On March 15, BJP's national president JP Nadda will campaign in favour of Dhakuakhana candidate Minister Naba Kumar Doley, Sootea candidate Padma Hazarika and Borsola candidate Ganesh Kumar Limbo. On the same day, party leader Shivraj Chouhan will address rallies for Naharkotia candidate Tarang Gogoi, Duliajan candidate Teras Gowala and Dibrugarh candidate Prashanta Phukan.
