Body of ASI of CRPF Nirod Sarma Reaches Assam

GUWAHATI: The mortal remains of ASI of CRPF Nirod Sarma reached the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Borjhar here on Thursday evening. Sarma who hailed from Nalbari district, was martyred during a terrorists strike at Anantnag area in Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday.

State Cabinet Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Media Adviser to Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, top Assam Police, CRPF and government officials were at the LGBI Airport to pay their tributes to Sarma. The body was later taken to his ancestral village in Nalbari district for creamation.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended on Dohkaunia village in Nalbari district. Nirod Sarma was among the five CRPF personnel of 116 battalion killed in a militant attack on a busy road in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday. Sarma is survived by his wife, Junali Devi and two daughters, Dikshita Sarma who is a student of Class 9 and Himangi Sarma, a student of Class 6. Sarma joined the CRPF in 1991 and was posted in Jammu & Kashmir for the last ten years. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while condemning the attack announced Rs 20 lakh as the government’s financial aid to the family of Sarma.
