GUWAHATI: Mahalakshmi charitable Trust, Chennai in association with Purva Tirupathi Sri Balaji Seva Samithi, Guwahati is going to organize Pushkaram, a Hindu river festival for the first time in Assam as Brahmaputra Pushkar 2019 in the banks of Brahmaputra from November 5 to 16.

Addressing the media on Saturday, secretary of the working committee Ramen Sarma said, “Among 250 flowing rivers in India there are 12 major rivers that have been assigned as Rasis. Every year when the planet Jupiter transcends from one zodiac sign to another to settle down in the river, that event is celebrated for 12 days as Pushkar festival. This year Jupiter is transcending to Sagittarius, which is connected with the Brahmaputra. So, it has been decided to organize Pushkaram in the banks of river Brahmaputra. Around 1.50 to 2 lakh devotees from South India including chief minister of Telengana are expected to attend the festival and the budget is around 70 lakh.”

Sarma further added, “We have requested the State government to help us in the maintenance so that the daily life doesn’t get interrupted. Keeping in mind about the number of expected tourists and devotees we’re planning to organize the festival at the Sonaram High school field.” Besides Pushkar Bathing rituals the other programmes that will be conducted from November 5 onwards include Navagraha Homa for eradication of bad omens and Sri Ayushya Homa for longevity, kuber Mahalakshmi Homa for affluence and wealth, Sri Dhanwandhiri Homa for cure of illness etc.”
