BSF, Guwahati plants over 8,000 saplings on World Environment Day

GUWAHATI: To promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity, the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action, World Environment Day (WED) is observed on June 5 every year. It is a means to tackle environmental challenges that include climate changes, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, environmental governance, ecosystem management and resource efficiency. In order to meet the challenges posed due to global warming and to bring environmental awareness among the Border Security Force (BSF) troops, a mega plantation drive was observed on this day by Seema Praharies of BSF Frontier Headquarter Guwahati. On this special occasion, the BSF organized various programmes including plantation of saplings of fruit-bearing trees, ornamental trees and other shade trees, cleaning drive and awareness programme. The plantation drive was conducted at Frontier HQ BSF Guwahati and in under command Sector Headquarters and Units, in which all officers, subordinate officer and other ranks of BSF, and CAPFs Composite Hospital Patgaon, Guwahati participated and a total of 8,025 saplings of various fruit bearing and other trees were planted.

Rajesh Kumar, Inspector General BSF Guwahati Frontier, inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling. He insisted that the planting a tree means nurturing a whole living system and we should strive to keep our environment green by making survival of planted sapling. He urged each BSF personnel to convey and convince this very noble idea to his colleagues and their families. BSF troops pledge towards fighting against environmental pollution.

BSF is also committed to continue its efforts towards social and environment causes with same vigour as being accomplished towards security of border.
