Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) and 30 other organizations of the State have appealed to the people of the State to burn copies of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) along with the meji (Magh Bihu bonfire) so as to push forward the agitation against the Act.

A statement issued by AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, "The people of Assam feel the angst within. The State and Central governments have been neglecting the protests of the people of Assam. The situation has taken a turn for the worse with the State government surrendering before the Central government's anti-Assam stance." AASU adviser-in-chief Samujjal Bhattacharya said, "The CAA is the enemy of the language, literature and culture of Assam. The people of Assam gain power from the heat of burning mejis. It's for that we've appealed to the people of the State to burn the CAA in mejis."
