Bus owners incurring losses, says All Assam Motor Transport Association

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) secretary general Pradip Das, on Wednesday, said that the employees working in buses are going through a financial crisis.

Das stated that the bus owners are going through a loss as it can allow only 50 per cent passengers to board the bus. The secretary general stated that the Association has a total of 690 city buses. "During the third phase of the lockdown, the Assam Government permitted 200 buses to operate on the roads. As of now 80 buses are running in the city. In every city bus there are around three employees; thus in total there are over 2,000 employees under the association. The owners of the buses have to pay monthly EMI of Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 and there are additional expenditures to maintain the vehicles. The income source of these people has been hampered and they are in a state of crisis," added Das.
