GUWAHATI: The police have recovered a car from Tinsukia's Dohotia Chowk which was stolen after being hired by a person from a city-based online vehicle renting portal - Ahija.com.

According to reports, a person named Santosh Baruah had hired the car (AS01DP5444) from the renting portal on June 1. After the car was not returned even after more than two months of its booking, Jyoti Deka, the owner of the vehicle lodged an FIR at the Geeta nagar Police Station against Ahija.com and Santosh Baruah. It is to be mentioned that Jyoti Deka had put his vehicle on rent with the Ahija.com.

After investigation, the personnel recovered the vehicle from Tinsukia's Dohotia Chowk. The police stated that the accused Santosh Baruah had put the car on mortgage to a woman named Jimi Das after taking Rs 1 lakh from her. He had removed the GPS from the car to make the vehicle untraceable, stated the police. Currently, the accused - Santosh Baruah is absconding and the further investigation is on.
