Guwahati: Celebrating the pride month in June, the LGBTQI community along with a score of supporters came out to the streets all over India. The LGBTQI queer pride month saw a host of exciting and fabulous events including pride march, queer street plays, discussion, queer film fest and many more. But unfortunately owing to social taboos, at the same time they also faced a high rate of hate crimes and discriminations. Pride parade can’t be celebrated while living under prejudice, commented an activist. Indians are suffering from the colonial hangover as the draconian law like Section 377 is still in practice followed by several controversies regarding the violation of basic human rights of queer people.
