GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented Silpi Sambordhona and support to mobile theatre artistes, technicians and other artistes who brought laurels to the state at a function held at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here on Friday.

In the programme Chief Minister Sonowal also handed over financial aids to the artistes who were hit by COVID 19 induced financial crunch because and presented appointment letters to the lecturers of Government fine Arts College, and Kokrajhar Music and Fine Arts College.

It may be noted that under Silpi Sambordhona scheme each of the 1,186 artistes was given Rs. 50 thousand financial aids, under Mobile Theatre Artistes, Technicians scheme each of the 974 Mobile Theatre Artistes, Technicians was given Rs. 50 thousand financial aids and 16,547 conventional artistes each hit by the COVID 19 pandemic was given Rs 6 thousand financial aids.

In the same programme, Chief Minister Sonowal also released a Coffee Table Book christened 'Kristir Batere'.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that the artistes in the society always play vital role in creating a harmonious society. Therefore, government of Assam has taken series of steps since beginning to accord recognition and prestige to the artistes. The financial aids given to the artistes is a part of the sequel of steps taken by the government. He also said that this is not just an end as government of Assam will continue taking steps for the welfare of the artistes.

The Chief Minister also responded positively towards the request made by CEM of BTR Pramod Bodo for naming the Music and Fine Arts College in Kokrajhar after noted artiste Sobha Brahma and declared the implementation of the same from today.

Speaking on the occasion, Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley said that the artistes spread the message of harmony and togetherness in the society and that is why, the state government has taken steps to recognize the immense contributions of the artistes and the role played by them in strengthening the moral values in the society. Assam Government has also initiated measures for socio-cultural development of the state, he said, a press release said.
