Guwahati: The Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal chaired an all-party meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting was regarding the current situation in the Bodoland Territorial Region. Suggestions were taken from the parties present in the meeting regarding the holding of elections in BTR. Sonowal said that both the government and opposition need to work together for serving the people of the state.

In September, the Bodoland People's Front demanded the elections to be held in the month of October. The members and the supporters of BPF also took out a protest rally in late September.

In today's meeting, Samir Kumar Sinha, the Principal Secretary of Health Department gave a presentation and projection on the COVID 19 situation of the state. Sonowal said that the holding of elections in BTR will be decided considering the democratic rights of the people, their health, and apprehension of an upswing in COVID cases during the upcoming festive season.

A proposal has been sent to the CM for holding the BTR elections in December, said Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The views of the various parties have been noted for discussion in tomorrow's cabinet meeting, however, the priority would be given to the interest of the people of BTR for any decision.

CM Sonowal said that all must work with 'Team Assam' spirit, avoiding their political affiliations.

The meeting was attended by the Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, PHED Minister Rihan Daimary, WPTBC Department Minister Chandan Brahma along with several other ministers and top officials of the state government.
