CM Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurates Project Bipod Bandhu

GUWAHATI: Under the maiden project Bipod Bandhu of the Fire & Emergency Services, Assam, volunteers are being trained to deliver aid till the time fire trucks and teams under it, come to the rescue.

The project was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on October 3 this year, however, trainees who have been termed Bipod Bandhu, have been training since the year before.

As per the deputy director of Fire & Emergency Services, Assam, Joyashree Kharasa, these volunteers are engaged in various locations of the 137 fire stations across the State. “Till date, 1019 volunteers have been trained and ongoing. They have been trained to provide first aid along with controlling the situation till the fire trucks or State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrives. The volunteers have to be minimum HSLC passed and between the age bracket of 18 to 40 years,” she said.

On November 17, Bipod Bandhu training started in Silchar and another is set to happen at Leelabari on November 24. Training of volunteers is usually for 5 to 21 days.
