Concern Over NRC And Citizenship Bill In Northeast: OKDISCD

GUWAHATI: A Young Social Scientists’ Meet was organized by the OKD Institute of Social Change and Development (OKDISCD), Guwahati during 7 and 8 January 2019. The Meet was for the young research scholars in Social Sciences working on different areas and issues of Northeast India. The objective of the Meet was to provide a platform to the young scholars to present their research work and interact with other scholars and resource persons.

A total of 39 young scholars from different Universities and Institutes across the country (Jawaharlal Nehru University, Central University of Gujarat, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Pondicherry University, Ambedkar University, National Museum Institute, Tezpur University, Sikkim University, Manipur University, Tripura University, North Eastern Hill University, Nagaland University, Assam University, Dibrugarh University, Cotton University and Gauhati University) have participated in the Meet and presented their research ideas. The Meet was truly a national event having participants from all the eight states of Northeast India and also some other states of the country, stated a press release.

The discussants of the Panel were Professor Bhupen Sarmah of OKD Institute, Professor Akhil Ranjan Dutta of Gauhati University and Dr Debarshi Das of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. The Panel raised concerns over the whole question of Citizenship and responses of the state pertaining to the question of Citizenship in India.
