GUWAHATI: State Health, PWD and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has singled out the Congress and the AIUDF as the BJP’s main rivals in the forthcoming panchayat poll in the State.
Sarma said this while talking to newsmen on Sunday. When asked if the BJP would have any alliance with the AGP in the panchayat poll, Sarma said: “There may be alliance at the grassroots level. We’re also trying to rope in the Gana Shakti, Rabhas, Tiwas and others for the rural poll. If they’re not interested, we’ve nothing to do. Our main rivals in the panchayat poll are the Congress and the AIUDF.”
The panchayat poll in the State is going to be held on December 5 and 9. Counting of votes will be on December 12.
Meanwhile, filing of nomination papers for the first phase of the rural poll is going on.
