Guwahati: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be flying in from Goa on Wednesday (November 25) morning to pay his respect to the departed veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi.

"Rahul Gandhi would be reaching Guwahati by 930am tomorrow. He is flying in from Goa. He will pay his respect to the great leader and fly back to Goa by noon," a Congress spokesperson told The Sentinel digital.

Rahul Gandhi will be paying his tribute to one of the stalwarts of Assam politics and one of the tallest Congress leaders of Northeast at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.

In his tweet condoling the death of the senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi had said that Tarun Gogoi was a "great and wise teacher" for him.

The late leader's body is being kept at Kalakshetra for all his well-wishers to pay their last respect to their beloved leader.

Gogoi will be cremated on November 26.

However, the Assam government and the Congress party is yet to finalise the place where the memorial of the late leader would be set up.

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that the Kamrup district administration could not find an appropriate government land in the heart of Guwahati that could be handed over to set up the Samadhi Stahl.

Minister Sarma said that the government would be more than happy to offer a plot of land in nearby areas like Amingaon or Sonapur. Sarma also said that Tarun Gogoi had a lot of contribution in the development of places like Amingaon.
