GUWAHATI: Congress workers under the aegis of Guwahati City District Congress Committee staged a protest in front of Ganeshguri petrol pump on Wednesday to show their resentment against the surging prices of petrol and diesel.

The demonstration was staged under the 'Assam Bachao' campaign which is underway all across the State.

The Congress workers arrived at the petrol pump on a horse cart and raised slogans against the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-led government. The protesters reiterated that the government has 'failed' to control the soaring prices of essential commodities.[Also Read:Assam News]

District president Juri Sarmah Bordoloi said, "By showing dreams of good governance, the BJP came to power in the State. But now by doing anti-public works they are bashing the people and are only working to appease the businessmen and capitalists. The Congress will always raise its voice against the anti-public policies of the government. In the forthcoming polls, the BJP will be rooted out from power."

The protest programme was attended by former Minister Akon Bora, former MP RP Sarma, and members from Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, and Sewa Dol.
