GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Cotton University (CU) Unit is demanding 80% seat reservation of Cotton graduates for PG (Postgraduate) admission in the university in view of the COVID pandemic situation.

The AASU, Cotton University Unit, said that among the issues faced by the student community, one major issue is that of admission in postgraduate level. So, in view of ensuring the academic future of the students of Cotton University, the AASU, Cotton University unit has raised the demand to increase seat reservation from 50% to 90% for CU graduates.

Giving reasons to the demand, AASU, CU Unit president Hrishikesh Dutta and general secretary in-charge Pranjal Sonowal mentioned that many of the parents will not be willing to send their children to the institutions outside Assam for further studies, so increasing the seat reservation will help the students of Cotton University. They said that as there are 80% seat reservation in Dibrugarh University for university students and the students of its affiliated colleges, Gauhati University authority too has decided to keep 80% reservation for Gauhati University graduates this year, and Cotton University should follow suit.
