COVID-19 cases keep rising in Guwahati; AG Test machine gives instant results

GUWAHATI: COVID-19 positive cases are on the rise in Guwahati. With the installation of the AG (Antigen) COVID-19 Test machine in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here on Friday, tests results are obtained instantly within an hour.

On Friday, the COVID-19 AG Test machine tested 50 nasal swab samples, and found four of them COVID-19 positive. On Saturday, the machine tested 37 samples till filing of this report, and found 14 of them positive. The number of positive cases is likely to go up since more such tests are being conducted by the AG Test machine.

On Friday Kamrup (M)ADC Chinmoy Nath and on Saturday Kamrup (M) administration PRO Ratan Saud test COVID-19 positive. Meanwhile, Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia who had been under treatment for COVID-19 in the GMCH was released after recovery on Saturday.

The GMCH seems to be inching towards its capacity in so far as COVID-19 patients and beds are concerned. In all, the GMCH has 246 beds for COVID-19 patients, and 243 of them have already been occupied. COVID patients are also being treated in 46 paying cabins. As of now, as many as 646 COVID-19 patients were admitted to the hospital, and 342 of them have already been discharged after recovery.
