CID carries out operation against drug menace
GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department has arrested a person with 77 cartoons of cough syrup on Monday.
The accused, Tapan Kumar Nayak collected the consignment in connivance of the owner of M/s PS Pharma & Co Prem Singh, and was planning to transport the consignment to Kohima. He is a resident of Borghopa village in Barpeta district.
The consignment contains 7,700 bottles of Codylate syrup. In this regard, the CID has registered a case (14/2020) u/s 22 (C) / 29 of NDPS Act against Nayal and proprietor of M/s PS Pharma & CO Prem Singh. In another operation, the sleuths arrested five drug peddlers of the same racket on June 3.
According to a CID source, acting on a tip-off, the sleuths arrested a person named Mahmudul Islam alias Milton from VIP Road area while he was waiting for a prospective buyer. The personnel seized 1.600 grams of heroin in 32 small vials from his possession.
In pursuance of his revelation about the procurement of the substances, the officials intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 DW 6046 (Kwid) under Six Mile flyover, near GNRC Hospital, Sixmile on the same day. The occupants of the vehicle Sargam Das and Priyanka Kalita were arrested with 30.850 grams of heroin. Das was carrying 1.350 grams of the drug in his pockets and Kalita was carrying 29.500 grams in two small polythene packets inside a light brown colour vanity bag. In pursuance of the seizure, the house of Das located at Batahghuli, Panjabari was searched following which 23.100 grams of heroin was recovered.
During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the entire recovered narcotic substances were procured through Samarjeet Patuwari, a resident of Madhuban Apartment, Panjabari supplied by Toni Kumar, a resident of Boripara Pandav Nagar, Jalukbari. Accordingly, both were arrested.
