Customers taken for a ride by SBI branch?

GUWAHATI: The SBI (State Bank of India), Six Mile branch in Guwahati is found not rendering services like passbook update and issuing bank statements that are very crucial for its customers.

A notice issued on July 20, 2020 by the branch manager was hung in the branch that reads '…only the following services are available from today till further orders: 1. Cash deposit/withdrawal, 2. RTGS/NEFT, 3. Funds transfer and 4. Passbook update (only home branch).'

However, as and when customers go to the bank branch to update their passbooks and for the issuance of bank statements, they are told to come only after August 2, 2020. The moot point here is: without their passbooks being updated and bank statements issued how will customers know the status of the deposits of their hard-earned money? Is this not the right of a customer to know the details of his/her bank deposit any time during office hours?

There are also allegations that for withdrawal of cash also, the officials of the branch ask most of the customers to avail the ATM services. It's a known fact that there is no arrangement for regular sanitization in the ATM kiosk of this branch.
