Death of Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Mourned

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi mourned the untimely demise of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. In a statement, Prof. Mukhi said, “The untimely death of Arun Jaitley is a great loss to the country. An architect of the biggest indirect tax reform of the country, Jaitley contributed to the roll out of Goods and Services Tax in the country”. As a Finance Minister Jaitley managed very professionally the post demonitisation period. A prudent politician Jaitley was, with his death, the country lost an able leader. He was also a legal luminary and had immense expertise on different legal issues especially cases related to taxation and finance. Though his death was premature, he left behind a rich legacy which will continue to source of inspiration to the young generation.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also deeply mourned the demise of former Union Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley. In a statement the Chief Minister said, ‘I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Ji. He was an inspiration and guide and his contribution towards shaping the growth story of new India is unparalleled. His death is an irreparable loss to the country which marks the end of a glorious chapter in Indian politics’.

Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held at the BJP head-quarters here in the city on Saturday evening, where the Chief Minister, party president Ranjeet Kr Dass, Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharjee, Guwahati MP Queen Ojha, Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, among others were present.

AGP president Atul Bora, Ex CM Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, APCC president Ripun Bora, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, and Water Resource Minister Keshav Mahanta also expressed their deepest condolences and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his empathy to the bereaved family members.
