GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia slammed the State government and said that it has not done proper planning to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saikia asserted that the common people have to suffer because of the government's poor planning to handle the crisis situation in the State. "The lockdown has been imposed in various districts and many people are struggling to get two meals a day," the leader asserted.

The leader claimed that before the lockdown was imposed in Guwahati on June 28, people working in the city migrated to their native places which has resulted in the spread of the virus.

Taking a jibe at Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Saikia said the Minister has given casual remarks regarding the crisis. "Sarma said that the government will not follow the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) testing guidelines. He should give a proper clarification about the decision," Saikia underlined.

Further, he pointed out that, "Like every State why Assam Health Department has no dedicated committee to provide recommendations to fight the pandemic. A task force has been formed however, there are no doctors. The government should clarify why there are no doctors in the task force?"

Talking about the delay in COVID test results, he said, "Many people have not received their test results even after 10 days. It contradicts Sarma's claim who said the results will be provided within three days of the tests."

Lastly, Saikia appealed to the Chief Minister to order an investigation about the delay in results.
