Defunct ferry service irks passengers

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 25: Expressing anger over the suspended ferry services of the Inland Water Transport (IWT) Department, the residents of Kuruwa staged a protest at Uzan Bazaar on Monday and demanded immediate resuming. Notably, pointing to the defunct state of engines, two ferries usually carried passengers to and from Guwahati and Kuruwa has been suspended by the IWT over the last couple of days. Hence, the residents from Kuruwa have been crossing the turbulent Brahmaputra risking their lives on machine boat. Meanwhile, responding their demand, officials of the IWT assured the agitating members to restart ferry services at the earliest even by hiring a ferry from other Ghat.
