GUWAHATI, Nov 21: The All India Road Transport Workers Federation staged a dhar in front of the office of the Labour Commissioner in Guwahati today in protest against the failure on the part of the State and the Central governments to ect any Act for the welfare of drivers and other motor transport workers of the State.

The Federation says that the drivers and other transport workers have to bear the brunt when there is any exigencies like lifting of vehicles, miscreants looting loaded vehicles, militants attacking them etc. “There’s an Act for the welfare of drivers and other transport workers in Tripura, West Bengal and Kerala. We want such an Act in Assam as well for the welfare of motor transport workers who have to lead a pathetic life with ageing,” the Federation said.
