Dispur hurling taunts to hush up its failure: Prabhajan Virodhi Manch

GUWAHATI: Prabhajan Virodhi Manch (PVM) convener Upamanyu Hazarika has said that with the Lok Sabha election coming closer, the BJP government has started to woo voters and hush up its failure by hurling taunts at others.

Addressing the media in Guwahati on Sunday, the Hazarika said: “The scorecard of the government in the State reads zero. In the past 32 months it has failed to keep any of the numerous promises it made in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha and 2016 Assembly polls. Before the last elections it said that all Bangladeshis would have to pack up after the BJP coming to power. However, the party hasn’t done anything of that sort. This is the reason why the people of the State have been opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 tooth and nail. In order to hush up its failure, the State government is out to blame others.”

Hazarika said: “Dispur seems right when it speaks of encroachment of Xatra land in the State. However, the moot question is: what prevents it from making the xatra land encroachment free? The government says a lot, but seldom translates anything into reality. In 2013 the Sipajhar Revenue Circle showed the land encroached upon by suspected Bangladeshis was 77,420 bighas. However, in 2018 the State government put the area of such encroached land in the area at 23,059 bighas. Why is there such a sharp fall in the encroached land? This has benefitted some Bangladeshis.” Hazarika blamed it on the State Government of taking recourse to some reasoning of sorts. “The government takes the credit for conviction in the rape-and-murder case of Arnamai Bora. The ground reality, however, remains that, the application of Arnamai’s daughter seeking a job on compassionate ground in the State Education Department has not been responded to as yet. On the contrary, two next of kin of Lafiqul Islam, who was killed by miscreants, have been given government jobs instantly,” he said. On the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, Hazarika said: “Now the State Government has broken its silence on the Bill. The government is now ridiculously justifying the Bill, instead of taking corrective measures to protect the indigenous people of the State.”
