Dr Bhupen Hazarika remembered on his 94th birth anniversary

GUWAHATI: Along with the rest of State, Guwahati celebrated the 94th birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the legendary music maestro, lyricist, writer, composer, film director, and producer.

All Assam Students' Union (AASU) members paid tribute to late Hazarika by lightning lamps in front of his statue in Dighalipukhuri. Later, the members visited Bhupen Hazarika's memorial site in Jalukbari and offered their tribute. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the AASU observed the day in a low-key manner.

"Dr Bhupen Hazarika was the pride of Assam and his Samadhi Sthal should be developed," said AASU president Dipankar Kumar Nath.

Meanwhile, Assam Cultural Affairs Department organized a solemn function at his Samadhi Sthal in Jalukbari in the presence of State Culture Minister Naba Kumar Doley and relatives of late Hazarika.

Chief Minister's Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami, and Commissioner of Cultural Affairs Department Preetom Saikia were also present among others.

In another ceremony, socio cultural organization - Byatikram MASDO in association with Bangladesh Assistant High Commission presented the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Byatikram Sanmaniyo Bota to Dr Ajanta Das. Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Guwahati, Dr. Shah Mohammad Tanvir Mansur was also present in the programme.
