GUWAHATI: State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that dragging former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to politics isn't fair.

Talking to the media while opening a plasma donation camp by journalists at GMCH Auditorium on Monday, Sarma took a dig at former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, and said, "His (former Chief Minister's) fight is with me. Why does he drag others to this fight. Former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi isn't a politician. He's a presidential nominee. It isn't fair to drag him to politics.

"Gogoi taking the name of Ajmal as often as not shows that Ajmal isn't interested in any alliance with the Congress. It seems that the Congress is more desperate for an alliance with the AIUDF. Mr Gogoi has been doing all these since 2012 for the political future of his son. Had Gaurav Gogoi been contesting for the Lok Sabha seat from Dibrugarh, and not from Kaliabor, Gogoi would have been in his previous self and said – who's Ajmal?"

On giving party tickets for the Assembly election, Sarma said, "We've told all party members at the executive meeting recently not to come to us seeking tickets. It's for the party high command to decide as to who should be given tickets for the election. Of course, we can do something on seats where it is certain that any BJP candidate can come out winners. Election preparations are set to start before six months. If an MLA can do better in implementation of various schemes, professional assessment, surveying the electorate and opening call centres etc., for poll the chances of getting ticket for him are bright."
