Drive Against Drugs Meets with Resistance

GUWAHATI, Sept 9: A drive against drugs initiated by personnel of Latasil police station at the Islampur area of Uzan Bazar on Saturday night, met with stiff resistance from the locals. As per police sources, the local people of the area objected the operation and provided obstruction to the police team in carrying out the operation. It s reported that with around a 100 people, that also included women, obstructing the police, the situation turned tense. The sources also state that in the chaos that ensued, a few drug addicts (that might also include drug peddler) made good their escape from the scene. It has also been alleged that the locals caused damage to three police vehicles. Meanwhile the police have registered a case (case no 189/18 US 147/148/149/353/427 IPC R/W Sec 3 of prevention of Damage to Public property Act) in the Latasil police station and investigation is on.
