Emergency Response Officers to Seize Work from September 5

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Emergency Response Officers (ERO) of the GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) 108 and 102 ambulance services will seize work from September 5 in protest against alleged exploitation made by the GVK-EMRI authority on the staff besides the silence of the State’s health department over the issue.

Talking to the reporters here on Thursday, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Assam State Committee general secretary Ramen Das alleged that ever since the introduction of 108 and 102 ambulance services in the state following an MoU between the Government of Assam and Hyderabad based GVK-EMRI in 2008 and 2013 respectively, the GVK-EMRI authority has been involving in various irregularities and exploiting the staffers.

The AITUC general secretary further alleged that the GVK-EMRI authority has been violating the labour law by engaging the EROs 12 hours a day in works instead of 8 hours without paying bonus.

“The women employees working in the emergency response centre also encounter sexual and mental harassment from their respective senior staffers,” Das alleged.
