Eminent children's writer Gagan Chandra Adhikari passes away at 79

Adhikari has composed over a hundred poems and won the hearts of countless young minds for six long decades.

Eminent children's writer Gagan Chandra Adhikari passed away at the age of 79 on Wednesday. He was suffering from prolonged heart and kidney related ailments and was admitted to Health City hospital where he breathed his last.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to express his condolences and said that Adhikar's creation has enriched the field of Assamese children's literature and that his demise is a great loss for the fraternity.

Adhikari received Sahitya Academy award for children literature. He was also the founder Principal of Chaygaon College. He has composed over a hundred poems and won hearts of countless young minds. He started composing poems in 1951 when he was a Class VI student and continued to inspire people for six long decades.
