GUWAHATI, July 30: Congratulating the people for maintaining peace and tranquility in the state despite strong provocation, misleading campaign and widespread apprehension during the updation of NRC, the CPI(M), Assam State Committee expressed satisfaction over the final draft of NRC published on time as stipulated by the Supreme Court.

Notably, according to the NRC authority, out of a total 3.29 crore applicants, 2.89 crore are included in the final draft while around40 lakh have been left out on various grounds. Hence, the CPI(M) appealed to all party members to help those left out so that their names are included in the final NRC.

In a release, secretary of CPIM, Assam State Committee Deben Bhattacharya said, “It is noticed that there are lots of anomalies in the preparation of the draft NRC. A large number of women who submitted panchayat certificate as linkage document are left out from the draft. This is despite the fact that the Supreme Court declared the panchayat certificates as valid document. A large number of applicants who deposited ration cards as supporting documents were reportedly rejected. Some family members of those who used same legacy with other family members are surprisingly not included in the NRC draft.”

Meanwhile, he demanded that time limit for claims for inclusion of names must be extended as a large number of people are left out from the final draft. The government should appoint one or two officers in each NRC Sewa Kendra (NSK) exclusively for helping people who would make claims for inclusion in the final NRC. He stressed that every single Indian should be included in the final NRC.
