Exercise Restraint, AASU Appeals to all Sections on NRC

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) has said that the final NRC is going to be published on August 31, 2019, but a few forces in the State are out to derail the entire NRC exercise.

This statement from the students’ organization came a day after miscreants set ablaze an AASU office at Tihu in Nalbari district on Monday night.

Talking to The Sentinel on Tuesday, AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the setting ablaze an AASU office in the run-up to the publication of the final NRC is essentially a conspiracy. The two AASU leaders have appealed to all parties concerned in the State to exercise restraint before and after the publication of the final NRC. They said that the updated version of the 1951 NRC is going to be published only at the initiative of the Supreme Court of India. Lurinjyoti Gogoi said: “The incident of setting afire the AASU office at Tihu has made it as clear as daylight that a few forces in the State are out to derail the NRC update exercise.”
