Face mask made of Assam Paat silk win hearts in social media

GUWAHATI: A face mask made of Assam Paat silk has been receiving appraisal in various social media platforms.

Nandini Borkakati, a Guwahati based designer of Page 3 Boutique has designed masks especially for Assamese weddings. Talking to the Sentinel, Borkakati said the idea of a wedding mask came when she received an order for a pair of masks for an Assamese bride and groom.

"We are receiving appraisal from many people besides receiving several orders for a similar design. The response has overwhelmed us and it was unexpected," said Borkakati.

"We are preparing different types of designed facemasks and also surgical masks. It is not that we are focusing only towards fashion but maintaining hygiene is our first priority. The masks can be packed after they are sanitized in a proper way. The masks that we are preparing are reusable and washable," she added.

Borkakati said that as of now around 400 designed face masks have been prepared which costs between Rs 250 to 300 per piece. However, the customized one costs around Rs 1000 and the surgical masks costs around Rs 30.

She said, "We started preparing masks for charity on behalf of a city based NGO named Human Power Foundation. After that we started preparing specially designed masks. Now that the wedding mask has received a positive response, we are planning to increase our production."
