Facebook Friendship Turns Into A Crime Encounter

GUWAHATI: Crimes related to social media has been escalating at an alarming rate and in a recent case, an Facebook friendship turned into a crime encounter. A Bittu Debnath, 27, from Kolaigaon in Darrang invited his Facebook friend from Rangia to meet up in the city. The duo decided to halt awhile at Sandhiya lodge in Pandu, Bora Bazaar, however, the girl complained of attempted rape and after creating a ruckus, fled from the spot. She lodged an FIR (426/19 u/s 109/342/354 (a)/379) against Debnath who was arrested by Jalukbari police on Monday along with the lodge owner Biswajeet Majumdar, arrested the same day.
