Financial Aid Towards Journalists Under The Journalist Medical Welfare Scheme

Guwahati: Financial assistance in the form of cheques was distributed to 18 journalists from Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) districts under the Journalist Medical Welfare Scheme on Thursday. Hrishikesh Goswami, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister, handed over the cheques to the journalists. Terming the journalists as the guardians of the society, the Media Advisor said that the fourth pillar of democracy gets its strength from the hard-work and sacrifices of the journalists. He also mentioned that the state government has been instrumental in implementing welfare schemes for the journalists. He also said that under the able leadership of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the financial support provided by the Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the government has taken up many welfare schemes for the journalists, writers and artists of the state. In this regard, the journalists have also come forward with valuable suggestions, he added.

Speaking on the occasion Additional Chief Secretary of Information and Public Relations Department, Kumar Sanjay Krishna said that as a welfare state, the state government has been implementing many schemes for the journalists. He added that in future also, the welfare of the journalists will always been considered with importance.

Earlier OSD of Information and Public Relations Department Rajib Prakash Baruah, while delivering the welcome speech said that in order to lessen the heavy financial burden from the diseased journalists, the scheme was introduced in 2012 and till now nearly Rupees 95 lakhs have been distributed to 225 journalists as financial assistance. He also added that not only from Guwahati but journalists from other parts of the state have also been benefitted from the scheme. Director of Information and Public Relations Anupam Choudhury, Senior Journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap and other officials of the Department also attended the programme.
