GUWAHATI: The Ulubari Government Higher Secondary School in Guwahati saw an unwelcome guest in the form of an early morning drizzle on Tuesday, which left it partially submerged. The few students and teachers who turned up for lessons were left distraught as they could not enter the premises and were left stranded outside.

The teachers and students who came braving the COVID-19 for lessons by following social distancing and other protocols, were left defeated by the rain became silent spectators to a heart-rending sight.

It is to be mentioned that this is not the first school in the city which has been affecting by the flood. There are various other schools that go through the same fate after a few hours of drizzle.

Meanwhile, waterlogging at several key locations after a brief spell of downpour troubled the commuters.

In several locations across the city including - Hatigaon, RG Baruah road, some areas of Beltola and GS road the mobility was severely restricted as tiny pools were formed even as the stubborn rain refused to recede.

Within a few hours of the beginning of the rains, most parts of the city were touched by waterlogging while disrupting the movement of traffic.

The road near the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) headquarters in Hengerabari was also partially submerged after the downpour. Locals stated that despite their numerous complaints to repair the potholes on the road, no step has been taken so far.

"Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visits the office every now and then for meetings. However, till date the road has not been repaired. The potholes gets filled water after rains and many people have met with accidents due to this," said a local resident from the area.
