Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury Reviews Prices

GUWAHATI: Retailers have assured the Food and Civil Supplies department that they will charge just Rs 4 more than the wholesale price of potato and juts Rs 6 more than wholesale price of onion, including transportation cost.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury had a meeting with top officials of the department, leaders of Kamrup Chamber of Commerce, officials of the Kamrup (M) district administration and the leaders of the Grahak Suraksha Samiti (GSS) at the Circuit House here on Friday.

The minister has asked the district administration and the department to keep a close watch on market prices of essential commodities through frequent inspections. He has also asked them to take stringent measures against unscrupulous businessmen. Choudhury has asked both wholesalers and retailers to keep price charts of all commodities displayed in front of their shops.

At the meeting the retailers assured the minister and the department that they will sell potato at just Rs 4 more than its wholesale price and onion at just Rs 6 more than its wholesale price.

Among others, the meeting was also attended by Food and Civil Supplies Secretary SZ Hazarika and Director Dipak Kumar Choudhury.
