Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi criticizes BJP Over CAB

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi slammed the BJP Government for trying to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) and at the same time, expressed contentment that various organizations, especially the youth, are widely protesting the move.

Addressing the media on Monday, Gogoi said, “Assam is burdened with numerous problems, but Delhi appears keen on only passing the CAB and destroying the State. The State Government is weak and unable to raise its voice against the Bill.”

Gogoi stated that solution to the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators was tried through the NRC. “The entire thought got shifted when the BJP showed illegal immigrants as Indian citizens and indigenous people as foreigners in the State. Initially, when the Congress government started the NRC procedures, the BJP grumbled that the process was going too slow, but now the same Government made it clear that they will not accept the NRC,” said Gogoi.
