GUWAHATI, Oct 7: Geetanagar Sarbajanin Durgapuja Samity is all set to celebrate the upcoming Durga Puja in a befitting manner at the Geetanagar School playground in Guwahati. For the purpose the committee has prepared a budget of Rs 25 lakh.
Talking to The Sentinel, the Samity has informed that it would adopt an eco-friendly approach in celebrating the mega festival. Beginning with the dress of the idol, every item to be used during the celebration would be eco-friendly, the Samity informed. In a similar tone, the Samity is using local artisans and no artisan is hired from Kolkata or other places. In the matter of security, the Samity informed that CCTV cameras would be installed and volunteers would be engaged to monitor the situation round the clock.
Last year around six lakh devotes visited the puja pandal. This year the Samity is expecting the figure to rise to seven lakh. The celebration will be marked Jatra party, Oja Pali, Naam Gosha programmes to be held during the days of the puja. Meanwhile, construction of the pandal is in progress and is expected to be completed by the 11th of this month
