GUWAHATI: The Assam State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has appealed to all anti-BJP parties of Assam to get united to topple the BJP.

The Left party held its State Council meeting from September 30 to October 2, 2020 at its party office at Rajgarh here. During the meeting the Council had a detailed discussion on the political situation in the State.

One of the important decisions taken by the party is to appeal to all anti-BJP political parties to be united so as to defeat the BJP in the 2021 Assembly poll in the State.

State CPI secretary Munin Mahanta said in a press release issued on Sunday, "Apart from imposing the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) by violating the Assam Accord, the BJP-led government in the State has sold the resources of the State like gas, oil, coal, forest areas etc. All these have posed a serious threat to the existence of Assam. The State government has been extending its support to the Central government's unconstitutional, undemocratic and anti-Assam acts. The State even doesn't dare to raise its voice against the Central government depriving the State of its Central share of funds. In such a situation, there's no alternative to topple the BJP government in the State.

"We observe that a number of organizations have formed regional political parties with a view to rooting out the BJP from the State. We appeal to all political parties to get united so as to defeat the BJP in the 2021 Assembly election in the State." The meeting also decided the party's future course of action.
