Ghosh Brothers’ owner arrested, in police remand

GUWAHATI, May 21: The State Transport Workers Association (STWA) on Monday staged a protest in front of the Hotel Contour located in Paltan Bazaar, Guwahati against the Hotel’s owner Ghosh Brothers demanding immediate payment of the outstanding amount.

Notably, the erstwhile Yatri Niwash of the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and now the Hotel Contour was granted on lease to the Ghosh Brothers fixing a rent amount of Rs 10,75,000 a month in March 2011. Since then, the enterprise is liable to pay an overdue amount of Rs 9,33,67,906 to the ASTC as per the MoU. During the protest demonstration, the STWA has given an ultimatum of one week to release the dues otherwise which they cautioned the owner to lock the establishment on Monday, next.

In the mean time, the Paltan Bazaar Police have arrested the owner of the Ghosh Brothers, Pratul Ghosh on May 18 from Kolkata. After presenting the accused to the CJM, Guwahati the city police took him under ten-day remand. He is also alleged of murdering his friend Mridul Jyoti Das in February, 2016. Allegedly, Ghosh was absconding ever since he committed the crime.
