Gorchuk Police arrested one minor among seven for killing a leopard

GUWAHATI: The Gorchuk Police has arrested 7 persons, including a minor for allegedly killing a leopard in the Katahbari area on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Aditya Barman (18), Subham Barman (19), Rubul Ali (20), Ibrahim Ali (18), Bablu Ali (19), Sailen Boro (25). All the accused are residents of Katahbari.

In this regard, the Forest Department lodged an FIR at the Gorchuk PS.

"It is observed that some teeth have been removed from the body of the killed leopard by the miscreants (poachers) which is a clear violation of Section 2/2(16)/2(35)/Sec.9/Sec. 39/50(1) © of Wildlife (Protection) Act,1972, Sec 50 (1) © and Sec 51 of Wildlife (Protection) Act Assam Amendment 2010. Sec 24, 25 of Assam Forest Regulation 1891 and amendment up to date," stated the Divisional Forest Officer in the FIR.
