Renowned lawyer and noted activist Prashant Bhushan to deliver lecture on 'Sedition and its relevance in a democratic setup'

GUWAHATI: Prashant Bhushan, Advocate, The Supreme Court of India, and noted public activist, will deliver the 17th Brajamohan Sarma Memorial Annual Lecture on 'Sedition and its relevance in a democratice setup' from 5:45 pm on September 26 (Sunday). It will be available on the Zoom platform

The Brajamohan Sarma Memorial Trust, Guwahati organizes such lectures every year in the memory of late Brajamohan Sarma, former advocate of Gauhati High Court and a flag bearer of the weaker sections of the society, to build up public awareness and mobilize public opinion on contemporary issues concerning citizens in general and the downtrodden of the society in particular. It has been organizing the event annually since his demise in 2004. This would be the 17th such lecture.

While Dr Prabhat Patnaik of Jawaharlal Nehru University delivered the first lecture in the series in 2005 on the topic – "The Judiciary and the Empowerment of the people"; the lecture series saw many illuminated names like Sitaram Yechury, Prof. Jayati Ghosh, Prof. Malini Bhattacharjee, Brinda Karat, Siddhartha Varadarajan, Prof. Manoranjan Mohanty, Justice (Retd) D. N. Chowdhury, Patricia Mukhim, Dr Hiren Gohain, Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, Prof. Emeritus Utsa Patnaik, renowned journalist P. Sainath, Dr Apurba Kr. Baruah and Prof. Manoranjan Mohanty delivering valuable lectures on wide-ranging topics.

The entry to the lecture is free and the trust invites one and all to join the lecture to make it a successful one. For access to the said meeting on Zoom, the Trust requests concerned and interested people to e-contact the organizers. This was staed in a press release issued by Manju Borah Sarmah, Managing Trustee, Brajamohan Sarma Memorial Trust.
