Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF): The men behind the scene

GUWAHATI: Starting from Ministers to bureaucrats concerned, organizing agencies and volunteers, all-out efforts have been rolled out in order to turn the 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival a grand success. As such, no one has left a space for lacuna from the front to the back of the premises of the event at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here.

The contribution made by Arif Ali, Rahim Ali and their two other colleagues is also quite commendable as they have been transporting delegates from one auditorium to the other with their e-rickshaws from 9 am to 9 pm every day. According to Arif and Rahim, four e-rickshaws have been hired by the GIFF organizing committee for the entire week-long programme.

Sharing their experiences with The Sentinel, Arif said, “We used to ply on the Six Mile-Panjabari road. We shout and rush like anything on the road to get a passenger on other days. However, in connection with the festival, we’ve learnt how to contact a visitor. We have now realized what gentility or manner is all about in one’s life.”

On asking if they feel bore in constantly transporting delegates from one auditorium to the other, one of the duo said, “No, rather we are excited. We can observe how the delegates have to rush. We never entered such a gentle gathering earlier. We share all these stories to our children. We also pray for a happy ending of this great event so that people from abroad take our heritage back to their countries with a good memory.”

However, the duo regretted that since their job rolls from morning to the late evening, they cannot manage to watch movies which they desired at least for one.
