GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Guwahati Railway Station has rescued a minor girl and arrested her trafficker on September 27.

According to reports, the RPF personnel noticed that one minor girl with one male person entered into the station in suspicious manner. As such the RPF personnel with on duty Commercial staff attended the spot and found the minor girl with the person sitting in the concourse area of the station were trying to hide their presence. After enquiry by the RPF personnel and Commercial staff, the statement of the girl was found contradictory with the statement of the male person.

Later they were brought to RPF Post Guwahati as directed by Inspector of RPF, Guwahati. During interrogation at the Post, the minor girl disclosed that she is 15 years old and is a resident of Athalpathar gaon under Charaideo district.

The person disclosed his name as Sunil Thakur (41) of Barhafjan under Tinsukia district. During further interrogation by Inspector, the minor girl stated that she has fled away from her home to proceed to Chennai on being insisted by Sunil Thakur, who pretended to her as Rajib Gogoi. She knew the person over phone only and never physically met him earlier. Sunil Thakur also confessed that he has brought the girl from Moran to Guwahati for trafficking her to Chennai by train with some ill motive. Later on, the RPF Inspector communicated with the parents of the rescued minor girl, who informed that the girl has been missing since September 26. As such, after medical examinations and other formalities, the accused Sunil Thakur and the rescued minor girl have been handed over to Officer in Charge of GRPS Guwahati with one written FIR.

The GRP has registered a case vide No 61/20 U/S 370(A) (i) IPC dated 27.9.20 and forwarded the accused person to judicial custody. The rescued girl will be handed over to her relatives.
