Head tonsuring against Bill by AACSU

GUWAHATI, May 22: With vehement protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 pouring from various corners of Assam, the state is presently boiling over the issue. In the latest instance, the All Assam Chutia Students’ Union (AACSU) registered its protest against the Bill with members of the Union taking to tonsuring of their heads. In all eleven members of the Union tonsured their heads in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The general secretary of the Union Mahen Bora said that the Bill has to be withdrawn and that within a time frame the Assam Accord must be implemented by the governments at the Centre and the state. He also informed that the Bill is a severe threat to the very identity of the indigenous people of the state and that the Union is engaged in organizing various protest programmes against the Bill in different places of Assam. He also averred that the indigenous people of the State must be given land right and also constitutional safeguards.
