Health Ministry deployed Central team to review COVID-19 management in Assam

GUWAHATI: Government of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare department has deployed a 3-member Central team for a week long visit to review the ongoing COVID-19 situation and the overall management and preparedness of the State and to guide the State accordingly. The protocol officers comprises of Ajay Tiwari, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment and two senior Public Health specialists Dr NN Naskar and Dr Snigdha Basu from All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health.

The team arrived on June 4 and at first visited the Screening and Sampling Center at Kiranshree Grand hotel followed by the microbiology lab at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). On June 5 the team visited the dedicated COVID facility at Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) and Sarusajai Quarantine Center. On the same day the Central team met Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Samir Kr.Sinha, Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare department and Dr Lakshmanan S., Mission Director, National Health Mission, Assam and had a detailed discussion and understanding of the COVID situation of the State.
