GUWAHATI: Education Minister HimantaBiswa Sarma on Friday welcomed the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Talking to the media persons, Sarma stated that he believes that the direction given by the NEP will lead to development in the education sector.
"Before moving to the cabinet the government will study the NEP and will discuss the change that the State needs in the education sector," the Minister underlined.
The NEP has received a mixed response from various parties and organizations. The BJP is fully supporting the NEP, however, the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has said that it will go in vain in the absence of educational infrastructures in sync with it.
The Union Cabinet on July 29 gave its approval to a new National Education Policy aimed to bring about several changes in the education system from the school to college level.
