Impeding fruit/vegetable sales: Assam Police seeks report

GUWAHATI: It has come to notice of the police from various reports from the media that fruit and vegetable-carrying vehicles have been facing hindrances from some quarters. Any specific instances or allegations of malpractices in this regard by any quarters, including those by Guwahati Police personnel, may be shared on the Assam Police WhatsApp helpline numbers 60269-00968 and 60269-00969; Guwahati City Police Control Room 03612464557 (landline) and 98645-00001 (WhatsApp); Guwahati Traffic Police WhatsApp helpline numbers 60261-76755 and 69012-69006; twitter handles of the Assam Police @assampolice Guwahati Police @GuwahatiPol Guwahati Traffic Police @GhtyTrafficPol, the State police administration said. Immediate and strictest action will be taken against anyone found guilty, the State police said in release.

The total lockdown had been declared within Kamrup (M) on June 26 which prohibited all activities other than a few specified as exemptions in the order. However, certain relaxations in the lockdown were made later, which allowed house-to-house delivery of fruits and vegetables between 8 am and 2 pm on 6th and 8th July, 2020 and retail of fruits and vegetables on 11th July 2020. Accordingly, vegetables and fruits vehicles were allowed on the days mentioned above and on other days their movement / entry was not allowed in Guwahati city, the release added.
