GUWAHATI: An inmate of the Guwahati Central Jail escaped from the police custody after he was brought to the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital) for medical checkup.

According to the police, a Hawaldar and a Constable was on-duty with the inmate. However, sensing an opportunity, he escaped custody on the pretext of using the toilet. The inmate, Raju Kumar is a native of Bihar and was arrested by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. He was lodged in the jail from last few months. The police said Kumar was brought to the hospital to receive treatment for kidney stone. Meanwhile, the hunt to nab Kumar is on and the jail administration has lodged a case (110/21 u/s 224 IPC) at the Bhangagarh Police Station.
