Jadav Narayan Das Commemorated By Axam Xahitya Xabha

GUWAHATI: The Birth Centenary of Jadav Narayan Das, famous educationist and protector of Assamese language in Western Assam was celebrated by Axam Xahitya Xabha in their main Wall. His struggle and great contribution for Assamese Language were fondly remembered as Slokas and Songs were sung and flowers offered to his photograph.

Briefing the aims and objectives of the celebrations, Shyam Bhadra Medhi announced that the whole idea was initiated by Ex-Principal P C Bhattacharya, who was the ex-student of Jadav Narayan Das at B Barooah College in 1940’s. President of Dhubri District Xahitya Xabha, Upendrajit Sharma presided over the meeting.

J N Das was the pioneer in starting the Grantha Mela (Book Exhibition) in Assam in 1970, about 60 years ago. Giripada Choudhury, who inaugurated the meeting, recounted Das’ contribution towards the tradition of Book Exhibition in Assam. Paramananda Rajbongshi inaugurated the Memorial Book.

The speakers remembered J N Das for his fight to conserve Assamese Language and quoted him as the best professor, principal and social worker who strived to maintain unity among all sections of the people.

Professor (retired) Upem Sarma suggested that B N College Dhubri should set up a statue in the college campus to commemorate him.
